Papaya: your friend against hypertension that lower blood pressure and more!
Experimental studies have shown that papaya juice contains substances capable of lowering blood pressure, while fermented papaya has been shown to activate macrophages. Papaya also contains papain, and its latex is used to cure eczema, freckles and warts.
Papaya is not just a delicious fruit; it also possesses important properties that are beneficial to your health. This is the conclusion of a study by the Agriculture and Agribusiness Department of the University of Karachi, Pakistan.
The study focused on papaya seeds, rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, which are known antioxidants that protect us from bacterial infections. The substances contained in papaya, explain the authors of Pakistan Daily Times, prevent kidney disorders and can free the intestine from germs. For example, the researchers report how in Nigeria, 76.7% of children were freed from harmful intestinal bacteria and worms.
The properties of papaya seeds have long been known in Japan, where it is believed that ingesting a teaspoon of them helps protect the liver from disease.
Mariam Naseem, co-author of the study mentioned above, claims the seeds can also be used with milk to prevent typhus, cure hemorrhoids, lower blood pressure and help reduce the formation of tumors. Muhammad Kamran Nasir, another co-author of the study, notes that Papaya is also rich in vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, iron and thiamine, useful for lowering blood pressure.
Papain, an enzyme found in papaya, is useful for treating digestive problems and issues with the gastrointestinal tract. According to the authors, the combination of all these beneficial substances is the perfect mix for weight loss, blood pressure reduction and management or treatment of diseases such as diabetes or cancer. It also helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, improve eyesight and fertility, treat acne and circulatory problems, reduce nausea and constipation and even protect smokers from emphysema.
While containing all these beneficial substances is a huge advantage of this fruit, we should remind you that there is no single cure for all evils, and every fruit contains beneficial substances. Remember that a diet that includes plenty of foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals is always beneficial.
